My Name is Melanie
… and I’d like to give you a little background on my career-long passion for experience design. See, once upon a time, a software entrepreneur hired a novice designer to create his new start-up’s first website — and the rest is my history. My time with Groove Networks was my first foray into designing experiences for varied, specialized sets of users … to try to get inside their heads and figure out how to get them engaged and interested enough to apply for a job at Groove. (Sounds easy enough, but there was a catch: we weren’t allowed to say anything about what the company did). Using chops I already had — an eye for design and typography, creative writing, an ability to see things differently — along with skills I learned on the job — animation, user research, conducting 1:1 interviews — I crafted a unique recruiting experience that raised the bar on the company’s image and more than doubled the number of applicants.
Today I’m a true hybrid: a senior experience designer who creates thoughtful, inclusive UX. A creative strategist and motion designer who can also write really good copy. I’m a life-long book lover – a passion that’s given me a true talent for narrative – and I’ve found that I can apply that skill to so many things: concept development, storyboards, user flows, customer journeys. I love being hands-on — writing, designing, prototyping — but cutting through the clutter is really what makes me tick. And I’m still passionate about delivering empathetic, customer-centered experiences. I’m still on point.

“Design creates stories, and stories create memorable experiences, and great experiences have this innate ability to change the way in which we view our world.”
